About the match:

Last night, Chennai Super Kings & Punjab Kings were scheduled to play the 53rd match of the IPL 2024. The venue of the match was HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala, and the match started at 3:30 PM.

The toss story:

Punjab Kings have won the toss and decided to bowl first against the CSK.

End score:

Chennai Super Kings went to bat first & posted a target of 167/9 in 20 overs. During the chase, PBKS were wrapped up in 139/9 in 20 overs.

Match highlights:

CSK went to bat first due to the toss decision. CSK kept their trust in their veteran openers Ajinkya Rahane & Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Rahane failed to make a mark on the pitch. Rtahane got out on 9 off 7 balls.

Ruturaj took the responsibility and bought the stability by making a powerplay on the pitch. Gaikwad & Daryl Mitchel played a little powerplay. Gaikqwad scored 32 off 21 balls and was later removed by Rahul Chahar.

Daryl Mitchell scored 30 and Ravindra Jadeja scored 43 runs, Chennai’s innings stuttered, with Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel both claiming three wickets. In response, Punjab Kings struggled to build partnerships, with Prabhsimran Singh top-scoring with a brisk 30. However, their chase faltered against the bowling attack of Chennai Super Kings, led by Ravindra Jadeja’s 3 wickets and supported by Tushar Deshpande’s 2 wickets. Falling short by 28 runs, Punjab Kings finished at 139/9 in their 20 overs, handing Chennai Super Kings a convincing victory.

Player of the match:

Ravindra Jadeja won the Player of the Match for his fabulous 43 off 26 balls and 3/20.

Post-match reaction: who said what?

This match was a 10/10 show of Sir Jadeja.

“We thought we were 15-20 runs short but we did not bowl loose balls in the power play and in the middle overs,” Jadeja said at the post-match presentation.

“The fast bowlers bowled well in the power play. Tushar got two important wickets and then Mitch and me did the job in the middle overs.” Jadeja struck a crucial 26-ball 43 and the knock came at a time when PBKS were chipping away with regular wickets.

Jadeja said it was tricky batting in the middle overs.

“It was a day game, so the wicket was slow. As usual, it was expected because it was so hot.

“It (the pitch) always seems flat in the power play. But when the ball gets old, it does not always come on. When playing at a new venue, you don’t know how much it will turn or stop. My role as a batter is to build partnerships and then play the big shots towards the end. Sometimes, when we lose wickets in the power play, we do not get momentum. In the matches we win, we play all phases well,” said Jadeja.

Simarjeet came as an Impact player & made his captain happy.

“I don’t know what he is doing but in the pre-season we had, he was bowling at around 150s.

We had Deepak (Chahar), Shardul (Thakur), Tushar (Deshpande) plus (Matheesha) Pathirana, and Fizz (Mustafizur Rahman), so he did not get too many chances. Nothing is late, he got a game today. We were thinking of sending an impact batter but we thought the impact batter would score 10-15 runs but the bowler might get us two-three wickets,” Gaikwad said.

The point table scenario:

CSK is holding the 3rd position in the point table with 12 points and an NRR (Net Run Rate) of +0.700. CSK have played 11 matches, won 6 and defeated 5.

On the other hand, PBKS is holding the 8th position in the point table with 8 points and an NRR of -0.187. They have played 11 matches, won 4 and lost 7.
