Match-highlights:

Captain Shubman Gill cracked a blistering century while B Sai Sudharsan hit his maiden IPL ton as Gujarat Titans kept themselves in the play-offs race with a 35-run win over Chennai Super Kings here on Friday. Sudharsan (103 off 51 balls) matched skipper Gill (104 off 55 deliveries) stroke for stroke as the two openers notched up destructive centuries to propel GT to 231/3. The home team’s bowlers then stopped the defending champions for 196/8 despite fighting fifties from Daryl Mitchell (63) and Moeen Ali (56). Sent into bat, Gill and Sudharsan put up a six-hitting exhibition as they notched up a 210-run stand, the highest partnership for any wicket in the IPL this season. The two also equaled Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul’s highest-ever IPL opening partnership.

Shubman Gill bagged the Player of the Match title for his superb 104 runs in just 55 balls.

Post-match reaction: who said what?

GT Captain Shubman bagged the Player of the Match title. Happiness was clear on his face.

“Yeah just a cramp, nothing else (reason for being off the field). When you’ve got 100k people supporting you, becomes easier. Just the freeness of it. When we were batting out there, we didn’t have any targets in mind. Were just maximizing the opportunities in front of us. We have a good camaraderie between us. Even last year we batted a lot together. A lot of fun batting with him. In terms of numbers, it is (the best opening partnership for GT). Mohit Bhai has done this for us in the last couple of years. Even last year, his bowling was a revelation. Even this year, two or three bad games can happen to anyone. At one point we thought 250 was there for the taking. In the last 2-3 overs they bowled well also. Just had a feeling we were 10-15 short – not in terms of the match but in terms of the NRR going forward.” Gill said after the match.

CSK lost the match by just 35 runs and Captain Gaikwad was busy to find out the fault.

“Our fielding let us down, we gave away 10-15 runs extra I think, execution wise we were good, but they played some really good shots. You can’t control batters when they playing so well and going good. It’s real quick, we got to fly quick and we have a tough game in Chennai, so we got to turn up well there as well.” Gaikwad said after the match.
