Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.

What are the takeaways from this squad?

Well, we have 5 takeaways from this squad.

1. Rishabh Pant is back:

Rishabh Pant met a deadly accident back in 2022 and due to that, he was out of the ground for 14 months. To be very honest, almost everyone thought that he would fail to make a comeback. However, Pant embarked on a challenging journey of recovery and rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and made a strong comeback in the IPL 2024.

Not only did he make a comeback but also he is on the list of the top 5 run-getters in the IPL 2024. He has scored 398 runs at a strike rate of 158.56 and now he is again in Team India.

2. Samson & Chahal are also back:

Sanju Samson & Yuzvendra Chahal are some of the best talents when it comes to wicketkeepers and wrist-spinners.

However, Chahal has been out of Team India since 2023. He missed significant tournaments like the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, and four bilateral T20I series. However, this long distance from the ground hasn’t made any impact on his performance level. He is the fifth-highest wicket-taker with 13 scalps in nine matches and became the first-ever player to take 200 wickets.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals Samson too is back in India colors, and for the very first time, in the squad for an ICC event. He is an outstanding batter & captain. He has scored 385 runs in nine IPL innings at a strike rate of 161.08 while leading the Royals to eight wins in nine matches.

3. KL Rahul is absent:

KL Rahul played a crucial role in the recent World Cup. however, he is not on the list of the T20 World Cup squad.

Despite his notable knocks, including aggregating 378 runs in nine games this IPL, Rahul found himself in a competitive tussle, contending for both the opening slot and the wicketkeeper position.

4. We have Shivam Dube but not Rinku Singh:

Shivam Dube is in great form. He has scored 350 runs in nine matches, boasting a strike rate of 172.41. Dube has also notably enhanced his ability to handle pace bowlers, a facet of his game that was previously overshadowed by his reputation as a spin-hitter.

On the other hand, Rinku is not doing great at all. He has managed to score only 120 runs in nine games, which has perhaps cost him a place in the T20 World Cup squad.

5. Team India has a heavy spin approach now:

India’s bowling lineup for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 leans heavily towards spin, with Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Yuzvendra Chahal all specialists in the art. Apart from these, Team India also has fast bowlers like Hardik as well.  It seems like Team India will focus on making spin attacks more in this T20 World Cup.
