Toss story:

Lucknow Super Giants won the crucial toss against Gujarat Titans and is going to bat first. Although LSG never had any upper hand on GT. However, in this match, they changed the game.

Let’s focus on the match:

LSG won the toss, which has been proved to be one of the most effective decisions of the match. Data is showing that if LSG wins the toss, they win the match.

LSG went to bat first and they posted a target of 163/5 for Gujarat Titans. Although, it is not a huge target, however, they got able to restrict Gujarat in this.

The beginning was not great for LSG, they faced an early blow when Umesh Yadav dismissed opener Quinton de Kock.

Umesh struck again in the powerplay with the wicket of Devdutt Padikkal. This back-to-back attack ensured that LSG scored just 47 runs in the powerplay.

Rahul eventually fell for 33 off 31 balls. Marcus Stoinis scored 58 off 43. Nicholas Pooran tried his best to make the best for LSG. however, he was restricted. Pooran remained unbeaten on 32 off 22 while Ayush Badoni scored 20 in 11 balls.

Spinners Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi played great. They literary starved the batters for runs.

On the other hand, Yash Thakur took five wickets in a day. We must say that LSG made some great choices about the bowlers.

However, another great pick of LSG failed to make yesterday. Mayank played for one over only and took one wicket too. However, after this, he got an injury and was forced to leave the ground.

Tewatia (30 off 25) also played a good hand but it came too late.

GT skipper Shubman Gill scored only 19 runs while opener B Sai Sudharsan (31 off 23) opened up his arms in the second over and struck Naveen-ul-Haq for two boundaries in the second over.

It was a torrid chase for GT with Thakur (5/30) and Krunal Pandya (3/11) sharing eight wickets between them.

Post-match story:

Speaking after the match, LSG captain KL Rahul said, “We’ll take the win, I am not going to make too much out of it (on defending totals). For the young bowling unit we have, it helps when we bat first. They get an idea of how the wicket is playing and they’ve also been adapting really well. It’s a good record to have (defending all 160+ totals), but it’s also where we’ve played. Having the home advantage helps. The bowlers have come through the ranks over the last couple of years. you have seen the same guys bowling in the last season as well., They have adjusted to their roles.”

“Hopefully we can continue this. We knew that it wasn’t as good as the wicket we played on (in the previous match here), also losing two wickets in the powerplay will set us back a bit. Unless someone carries on to get 70-80, it is tough to achieve that 170-180. We just wanted to bat and see how much we can get. That’s the advantage you have when you are batting first. All three spinners have been key for us. Sid coming in this season has done really well, he plays a crucial part with the new ball, and he’s shown great temperament. His job is to restrict the batters. KP (Krunal Pandya) is very experienced, he’s played IPL for so many seasons. Bishnoi has been around for so many years and keeps getting better. Feels good to get off the mark there (first win vs GT),” he added.
