What happened on the pitch?

Well, there is nothing much to analyze at all. We saw a one-sided bowling storm by the Delhi Capitals bowlers and Gujarat Titans batters just surrendered in front of them, without any kind of fight.

Delhi Capitals, pacer Mukesh (3 for 14) emerged as the pick of the bowlers while senior pacer Ishant Sharma and youngster Tristan Stubbs bagged two wickets each.

David Warner’s replacement, Sumit Kumar, produced a stunning effort to dismiss Sai Sudharsan as Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans achieved the second-lowest powerplay. Only Rashid Khan was a ray of hope for Gujarat.  Rashid Khan’s 31-run knock lifted GT to 89 in 17.3 overs.

For Delhi Capitals, bowlers did all the tough jobs already and batters just took 8.5 overs to defeat GT.

DC’s opener in the run-chase, Jake Fraser-McGurk smashed 20 off 10 balls to put the Delhi Capitals in the driving seat. Skipper Pant remained unbeaten on 19 off 10 balls to seal a six-wicket win over GT.

Skipper Pant was named the Player of the Match for his 2 catches, and 2 stumpings and scored 16* in just 11 balls. It is one of the most comfortable wins in the IPL 2024 ever.

Post-match reactions: who said what

After this shameful defeat, Gill took responsibility like a responsible captain, he said: “I blame myself & some other batters for some very ‘average batting’ ”. He didn’t blame the pitch at all.

“Our batting performance was very average,” Gill said at the post-match presentation. “I think the wicket was alright, to be honest. If you see our dismissals, the ball I got out to had nothing to do with the pitch. Even the way Wriddhi [Wriddhiman Saha] bhai got out had nothing to do with the pitch, and Sai [Sudharsan] got run out. So I don’t think it had anything to do with the pitch. Just a bad batting performance and poor shot selection, I would say.”

Speaking after the win against GT, Pant said, “Lots of things to be pleased about. We talked about the champion thought process and our team showed today that we can play like that and really happy to see that. [on the bowling] Definitely one of the best, it’s early on in the tournament, can’t say much as we can improve individually. The only thought process before coming on to the field was coming in a better way, that’s the only thought when I was going through my rehab.”

“The only conversation we had before the chase was – let’s get it as early as possible, we lost a few run-rate points earlier and we covered it up. We just love being in Ahmedabad, we love the stadium, and the vibe here, and looking forward to playing more matches here. We just want to enjoy our win, one at a time, and move forward learning from it,” he added.

Final words:

Shubman looks quite mature as a captain and we believe that he will take enough measures to make a comeback. Stay connected with  Cricfeverr.com to get all the sports updates on time.
