What is the overview of the match?

Yesterday was the 41st match of the IPL 2024. In this match, Royal Challengers Bangaluru & Sunrisers Hyderabad locked horns. The venue of the match was Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad 13 hours ago & the match started at 7.30 PM.

Who won the toss & what was decided?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

What happened on the pitch?

The days started well for RCB. They won the toss & decided to bat against SRH.

RCB kept their trust in their trusted openers Virat Kohli & Faf Du Plessis. Skipper Faf Du Plessis scored 25 runs and 12 balls and made an explosive start to the RCB innings before being dismissed in the 4th over of the innings when he attempted to hit a short and wide delivery from T Natarajan but could only send it to Aiden Markram inside the 30-yard circle. Meanwhile, young England opener Will Jacks couldn’t make an impression in the match as he completely misjudged a straight delivery from Mayank Markande and was dismissed for a score of 6.

However, Virat Kohli kept fighting on the pitch. At the same time, Rajat Patidar scored 50 runs in 20 balls provided the much-needed impetus to the RCB innings, and set the Bengaluru-based franchise on the path to a 200-run total. However, RCB seemed to lose momentum after the quick wickets of Rajat Patidar (13th over) and Virat Kohli (15th over), but an impressive inning from Cameron Green (37 off 20 balls) helped RCB eventually post a total of 206/7.

If we talk about SRH, Aiden Markram and Abhishek Sharma opened the innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Head, however, was dismissed in the first over of the innings when he attempted to slog a flighted delivery from Will Jacks, only to see it go straight into the hands of Karn Shama. 23-year-old Abhishek Sharma (31 off 13 balls) made an explosive start to the SRH innings, but his stint was short-lived as the left-hander was dismissed in the fourth over of the match after hitting a ball straight into the air that was safely caught by wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik. Other than that, no other SRH batsman except Shahbaz Ahmed (40 off 37 balls) and skipper Pat Cummins (31 off 15 balls) could make an impression in the game as SRH were eventually bowled out for 35 runs on their home ground.

Who bagged the Player of the Match title?

Rajat Patidar won the Player of the Match title for his 50 runs in just 20 balls. Although, Virat Kohli also scored 51 runs in just 40 balls. However, he didn’t win the Player of the Match of the title.

What were the records made on the pitch?

IPL 2024 is all about making & breaking records. With just 51 runs Virat touched the mark of 400 runs in the IPL 2024. He is the first player of IPL 2024 to make 400.

With this, he also became the 1st player in IPL history who scored 400 runs in 10 seasons. Well, this is something “King-worthy”.

Post-match: who said what?

This is the second win for RCB in the tournament. So definitely, the whole team was overjoyed. Captain Faf said, “In the last two games, we’ve shown great signs of fight. SRH game was 270 plus, and we got 260. KKR game as well – 1 run. We’ve been close for a while, but you need to win matches to get confidence as a group. Will sleep easier tonight. You can’t speak confidence into the group, can’t fake confidence into the group. The only thing that gives confidence is performance,”

On the other hand, the loss was very shocking. For Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“I think it’s our strong suit. It’s not going to work every game. In one or two games where it hasn’t gone our way at the start, we still managed to get a good total. Still think this is the way forward for our boys,” Pat Cummins said.

“I speak after wins, Dan speaks after losses. The boys have been doing really well, it’s T20 cricket, you are not going to win every game. Don’t dwell on this too much,” he added.
