Who won the toss and what decided?

Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bat first.

What happened on the pitch?

Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bat first. We thought that MI would be able to post huge scores on the board. However, the day didn’t start very well for MI and it almost showed the result in the beginning. MI’s trusted opener Rohit Sharma went back to the dressing room after just making 6 runs while Ishan Kishan followed his path even without contributing anything.

Suryakumar Yadav tried to steady the ship but could only add 10 runs. The standout performance for MI came from Tilak Varma, who scored an impressive 45-ball 65.

Mohammad Nabi scored 23 runs in 17 balls and captain Hardik Pandya scored 10 runs in 10 balls after getting a start. It was the first time that Nehal Wadhera got a chance to represent Mumbai in this IPL season. The left-hander made valuable contributions, 49 runs off 24 balls, helping Mumbai reach a fighting total of 179/9 in 20 overs.

Well, it was a very poor show by MI.

On the other hand, the opening duo of Rajasthan Royals was enough to tackle the whole Mumbai Indians.

However, chasing a 180-run target, Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 104, he also good support from Jos Buttler (35) and Sanju Samson (38*) as the Royals won the match by 9 wickets.

This combined effort of the trio helped Rajasthan Royals in bagging one of the most comfortable wins in the IPL 2024. RR bagged the match with a margin of 9 wickets with 6 balls left. Although, Jaiswal played extraordinarily, however, he didn’t bag the Player of the Match title.

Let us mention that, it is the second century of Jaiswal in the IPL 2024.

Did anyone make any record in this match?

Yuzvendra Chahal made a record yesterday. He took the wicket of Mohammed Nabi and with this, he touched the mark of the 200th wicket in the IPL format. This achievement also helped Yuzi to equal to Byumrah in wicket-taking.

However, Yuzi is now the highest wicket-taker in the IPL.

For the IPL format, the list is:

Yuzvendra Chahal: 200 wickets

Lasith Malinga: 150 wickets

Lasith Malinga 100 wickets

RP Singh: 50 wickets

Who won the Player of the Match title?

The award went to Sandeep Sharma, who achieved the best bowling figures of this year’s IPL in his comeback game after injury. His 5/18 crushed the Mumbai top order and dismissed Tim David and Gerald Coetzee as well.

Post-match: who said what?

It was one of the worst days of MI and the effect was clear on the voice of the captain of MI in the post-match conversation.

“We put ourselves in trouble early on. The way Tilak (Verma) and Nehal (Wadhera) batted – that was fantastic. I don’t think that when we lost a couple of wickets early we thought we would even reach 180. We didn’t finish well and that’s why we were 10-15 runs short,” Pandya said after the game.

“We had to keep it within the stumps. Early on in the powerplay, we gave a lot of width and I don’t think it was our best day in the field as well. Overall, we did not put the right foot on the park and eventually, they outplayed us,” Pandya added.

Sandeep Sharma, Man of the Match: “Got fit day before yesterday only. First game after fitness, feeling good. Pitch was on slower side and lower side, so my plan was to keep bowling variations and cutters. If you’re bowling in the end, you have to have big heart.

“Have seen in the IPL, bowlers are under the pump. Need to have big heart and keep executing plans. As you know, I went unsold two years ago. Came in as a replacement. So I’m enjoying every game.”

Sanju Samson, RR captain: “Credit has to go to all the players. Started well in the powerplay. In the middle, the left-handers played unbelievably. But the way we came back was where we won the game. Wicket looked a bit dry.

“But when lights come in, gets colder in the night, it gets better to bat in the second innings. People are professional enough about what to do when they get a break. I don’t think he needs (advice from) anyone (Jaiswal). He’s very confident. Was about one game. Let’s see how the wicket is there (Lucknow) and let’s see how it goes.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal: “Thank you so much, I really enjoyed from the start and I made sure I was watching the ball properly and playing proper cricketing shots. I’m trying to do what I am doing well, some days it comes good and some days it doesn’t, I’m not thinking much.

“I want to thank all my seniors the way they have guided me. I want to thank the Rajasthan Royals management and especially Sanga sir and Sanju bhai for giving me opportunities. I go out and give my best in the practice sessions and I’m so happy today.”

Final words:

MI management should take action to recover from this situation. After all, they are one of the best teams in the IPL. Stay tuned with Cricfeverr.com to read more match highlights like this.
