The toss details:

Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan won the crucial toss and opted to bowl first.

Match highlights:

PBKS won the toss and the captain decided to do the fielding first. Although PBKS tried their best to restrict Sunrisers at a low target, however, it didn’t work.

From 67 runs needed in the last 4 overs to losing by a mere 2 runs, Punjab Kings’ Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma fought till the very end, but just could not get their side over the line.

This match witnessed the Nitish Reddy’s maiden IPL half-century. He managed to make 64 in 37 balls and SRH managed to bounce back from being 40/3 at the end of the powerplay. This helped SRH to post a competitive total of 182/9 after the home side was left struggling at 66 for four in the 10th over.

On the other hand, PBKS failed to show much resistance. They lost three wickets for just 27 runs.

However, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma gave their best for PBKS. Shashank Singh scored 46 runs off 25 balls and remained not out, whereas Ashutosh Sharma scored 33 not out off 15 balls. This power combo made a 66-run partnership which helps PBKS to pull them for a longer.

Apart from, Shashank & Ashutosh, Sam Curran and Sikandar Raza also gave a bit of fight.

Post-match stories:

In the post-match conversation Pat Cummins shared “Was a great game of cricket, they bowled really well at the start, we did well to get to 180. Got too close. Always tried to be positive. They bowled exceptionally with the new ball. With 150, you are going to lose nine out of ten times. We were pretty happy with 180. Conditions maybe (on taking the new ball). Bhuvi and I tried to take a couple of wickets with the new ball. (On Nitish) He was awesome, fantastic in the field, bowled three overs.”

PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan stated “I feel that Shashank and Ashutosh played a great knock, we restricted them to a good total, but we couldn’t cash in on the first 6 overs, lost 3 wickets and that’s where we fell behind and it cost us in the end. When the wicket wasn’t offering a lot of bounce, every individual will have to look back and change their approach. We dropped a catch off the last ball, we could have kept them down by 10-15 runs, but batting let us down. It’s great to see youngsters chipping in with such consistency (on Shashank and Ashutosh). There was always hope that they could finish the game, but we got so close and that’ll give us confidence going into the future games, but we’ll have to do better going ahead.”
