What is the match overview?

Yesterday, 11th April 2024, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru were scheduled to play the 25th match of the IPL 2024. The venue of the match was the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and the match started at 7:30 PM.

What happened in the toss?

Mumbai Indians won the toss. Skipper & captain Hardik Pandya decided to do the fielding first.

Let’s focus on the match highlights:

Hardik won the toss for Mumbai Indians and decided to bowl first. As Wankhede is a batting stadium, so, we thought that RCB would be able to bag a significant advantage of the pitch. However, it didn’t happen.

RCB only managed to get to a score of 196/8 which can be considered as average against the pitch condition. However, for RCB Dinesh Karthik gave some amount of fight. He scored an unbeaten 53 out of 23 balls.

For RCB, captain Faf du Plessis scored 61 off 40 balls while Rajat Patidar made 50 off 26. Just like every other match of RCB, they were dependent on Virat in this match even. RCB starts falling like a house of cards after the dismissal of Virat Kohli and Will Jacks. Kohli was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah after which Akash Madhwal got the wicket of Jacks. Captain Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar then steadied RCB with an 82-run stand that came in 47 balls. Then came another two wickets in quick succession with Patidar falling soon after he scored a half-century and Glenn Maxwell for yet another duck in what has been a nightmare season for him. Du Plessis then crossed a half-century himself.

On the other hand, MI played really well. Bumrah was spectacular on the pitch. He took 5 wickets for 21 runs only. In the batting department of MI,  Ishan Kishan blazed 69 in 34 balls after which Suryakumar Yadav screamed to 52 in just 19 balls. Rohit Sharma smashed 38 in 24 balls while captain Hardik Pandya has been at his belligerent best since the very first ball he faced.

Suryakumar Yadav’s record:

Although, Bumrah got all the limelight in this match due to his spectacular 5/21. However, our SKY made a record. SKY scored 52 runs in just 19 balls and with this, he touched the mark of 7000 T20 runs. He is the first Indian to do this. So, the list is:

12313- Virat Kohli

11312- Rohit Sharma

9783- Shikhar Dhawan

8654- Suresh Raina

7309- MS Dhoni

7272- Robin Uthappa

7224- Dinesh Karthik

7192- KL Rahul

7021- Suryakumar Yadav

Post-match story:

After the match, MI captain Pandya said, “Always good to win. The way we have won – it’s quite impressive. The impact player has been given the opportunity to use an extra bowler if we require it. It gives me a cushion as well. At the same point, if someone is having a bad day, it helps us to cover those overs. The way Ro and Kishan batted, giving the platform, it was important for us to finish it early. We didn’t speak about it. That’s the beauty of this team, players know what the situation is.”

After this match, MI team mentor Sachin Tendulkar took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and hailed Pandya and his team, he wrote “Two wins on the trot now for @mipaltan after a tricky start to the tournament. @Jaspritbumrah93 was sensational, once again proving why he’s the best in the business”, he wrote.

“@ImRo45 and @ishankishan51’s fearless batting during the powerplay overs effectively reduced the required run rate. It was good to see @surya_14kumar hitting the ball so sweetly after his injury layoff. Lovely to have him back in the team, playing in top gear. @hardikpandya7 finishing the game off in style was the icing on the cake”, he further added.
